Sonic, Knuckles and Tails face off against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with new powers. Overcoming their own powers, Team Sonic must seek an unlikely alliance. The directors of the previous films cited both Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2001) and the single-player game Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) as inspiration. The film also uses narrative elements from the Saturday morning animated television series Sonic the Hedgehog (1993). In the Sonic X television series, Professor Gerald Robotnik was killed by G.U.N. But in this film, he was still alive and reunited with his grandson Dr. Robotnik. Commander Walter: [about Shadow] Project Shadow is far beyond anything we’ve ever encountered. Shadow’s story began much like yours, Sonic. But where you found family and friends, Shadow found only pain and loss.
